This summer school invites the local research community to explore the dynamic field of mathematical epidemiology and related areas in mathematical biology. The program features a series of focused mini-courses on mathematical and statistical methods, with connections to clinical practice and policy-making. Participants will also enjoy a diverse lineup of research talks by both faculty and students.

Mini-courses

  • Vittoria Colizza, Director of Research (DR1) at INSERM (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research) and Sorbonne Université, Faculty of Health Sciences

Title: Spatial disease transmission and metapopulation modeling

  • Hagai Katriel, Braude College

Title: From SIR to stochastic discrete-time age-of-infection epidemic models

  • Eyal Leshem, Director of the Center for Travel Medicine and Tropical Diseases, Sheba Medical Center

Part 1: Historical perspective of pandemics

Part 2: Real world impact of Rota vaccines

  • Joe Lewnard, UC Berkeley School of Public Health,

Title: Bridging modeling to the real world: study designs and analytical approaches

  • Ehud Meron,

Title: Multi-level ecosystem response to drier climates

  1. Introduction to pattern-formation theory
  2. Vegetation pattern formation: mechanisms and mathematical modeling
  3. Vegetation patterning as a population-level stress adaptation mechanism
  4. The interplay between vegetation patterning and other stress-adaptation mechanisms: individual-level phenotypic changes, and community re-assembly

Policy forum directed by Prof. Nachman Ash, CEO of the Ministry of Health, during the pandemic
