Abstract:

In this talk I will give a gentle introduction to the problems studied in probabilistic number theory, explaining motivation and methods. A particular focus will be given to analogies and connections with the symmetric group and function field arithmetic. Our starting point will be the Erdős–Kac theorem and by the end of the talk we shall reach Montgomery's pair correlation conjecture.
