Cable Car Algebra Seminar: Elements with few fixed points in group actions

Thursday, December 25, 2025
  • Lecturer: Daniele Garzoni (U. Southern California)
  • Organizer: Max Gurevich, Anton Khoroshkin, Danny Neftin, Howard Nuer, Ofir Gorodetsky
  • Location: Technion, Amado Building, Room 814
Abstract:
In this talk, we will be concerned with actions of finite groups, and more specifically with elements fixing “few” points in such actions. One of the goals will be to explain why this is interesting, highlighting applications to polynomials, random generation, and, time permitting, monodromy groups of curves.
